Custom shortcuts

Custom keyboard shortcuts for Merge menu commands can be created via macOS.

To create a custom keyboard shortcut for a menu command in macOS 13 Ventura and later:
  1. From macOS System Settings, select the Keyboard item.
  2. Click the Keyboard Shortcuts… button.
  3. From the list on the left, select App Shortcuts.
  4. Click the + button beneath the right-hand pane.
  5. From the Application drop-down menu, choose Araxis Merge.
  6. In the Menu Title entry field, type the text of the menu item for which you wish to create a shortcut. For example, to set a shortcut for EditPrevious Change, type Previous Change.
  7. Click on the Keyboard Shortcut field and press the shortcut key combination you wish to use.
  8. Click the Done button.
To create a custom keyboard shortcut for a menu command in macOS 12 Monterey and earlier:
  1. From macOS System Preferences, select the Keyboard item.
  2. Select the Shortcuts tab.
  3. From the list on the left, select App Shortcuts.
  4. Click the + button beneath the right-hand pane.
  5. From the Application drop-down menu, choose Araxis Merge.
  6. In the Menu Title entry field, type the text of the menu item for which you wish to create a shortcut. For example, to set a shortcut for EditPrevious Change, type Previous Change.
  7. Click on the Keyboard Shortcut field and press the shortcut key combination you wish to use.
  8. Click the Add button.

Ctrl+Cmd+A Save a comparison to a file with a specified name.
Cmd+O Open a file or folder.
Shift+Cmd+O Reopen the current file with a specified character encoding.
Cmd+S Save the content of the pane currently being edited.
Shift+Cmd+S Save the content of the pane currently being edited to a file with a specified name.
Option+Cmd+1 (one) Save the content of the first pane of a text comparison.
Option+Cmd+2 Save the content of the second pane of a text comparison.
Option+Cmd+3 Save the content of the third pane of a text comparison.
Ctrl+Shift+1 (one) Save the content of the first pane of a text comparison to a file with a specified name.
Ctrl+Shift+2 Save the content of the second pane of a text comparison to a file with a specified name.
Ctrl+Shift+3 Save the content of the third pane of a text comparison to a file with a specified name.
Shift+Cmd+E Display a sheet that can be used to generate a report for the current comparison.
Cmd+P Print the current comparison.
Shift+Cmd+P Set page attributes for printing.
Cmd+W Close the current window or tab.
Option+Cmd+W Close all Araxis Merge windows and tabs.
Cmd+Z Undo the last operation.
Shift+Cmd+Z Redo the last undone operation.
Cmd+X Copy the current selection to the clipboard and then remove the selection.
Cmd+C Copy the current selection to the clipboard.
Cmd+V Replace any current selection with the content of the clipboard. If there is no current selection, insert the clipboard content at the editing cursor.
Cmd+A Select all text/rows.
Ctrl+Cmd+C Select all the changed files in a folder comparison.
Shift+Cmd+R Recompare the selected files and folders in folder comparison.
Ctrl+Shift+ Jump to the previous change in the active pane of a text or binary comparison and move the editing cursor to it. When a folder comparison has focus, jump to the previous changed row.
Ctrl+Shift+ Jump to the next change in the active pane of a text or binary comparison and move the editing cursor to it. When a folder comparison has focus, jump to the next changed row.
Ctrl+Option+ Jump to the previous change in an entire file or folder comparison. For split-view folder comparisons, this will step backwards through every change in every file in the folder comparison.
Ctrl+Option+ Jump to the next change in an entire file or folder comparison. For split-view folder comparisons, this will step forwards through every change in every file in the folder comparison.
Ctrl+Option+Shift+ Jump to the previous changed row of a folder comparison, even when the file comparison of a split-view folder comparison has focus.

Option+Cmd+ In a text comparison, pull the corresponding change from the left to replace the current change. The keyboard-shortcut arrow indicates the direction in which the change moves.
Shift+Option+Cmd+ In a text comparison, pull the corresponding change from the left to replace the current change and move to the next change. The keyboard-shortcut arrow indicates the direction in which the change moves.
Option+Cmd+ In a text comparison, pull the corresponding change from the right to replace the current change. The keyboard-shortcut arrow indicates the direction in which the change moves.

Ctrl+Shift+ Push the current change to the left to replace the corresponding change there. The keyboard-shortcut arrow indicates the direction in which the change moves.

Cmd+G Move the editing cursor to the next matching text in the current pane (see Cmd+F).
Shift+Cmd+G Move the editing cursor to the previous matching text in the current pane.
Cmd+E Use the current selection as the text to search for using the Find window.
Cmd+J Ensure that the selection (or editing cursor, if there is no selection) is visible.
Cmd+] Indent the selected block of text by the amount specified on the SettingsText ComparisonsEditing page.
Cmd+[ Un-indent the selected block of text by the amount specified on the SettingsText ComparisonsEditing page.
Cmd+K Mark the current selection or line as resolved, removing any conflict markers and dimming the selection.
Cmd+F2 Toggle a bookmark on or off for the current line.
Shift+F2 Move the editing cursor to the previous bookmark.
F2 Move the editing cursor to the next bookmark.
Shift+F3 Move the editing cursor to the previous edit marker.
F3 Move the editing cursor to the next edit marker.
Shift+F4 Move the editing cursor to the previous conflict marker.

Cmd+D Remove all markers in the current comparison.
Cmd+Y Show statistics for the current comparison.
Ctrl+Cmd+H Hide/show the selected files and folders in a folder comparison.
Ctrl+Cmd+F Hide/show folders that contain no unhidden files in a folder comparison.
Ctrl+Cmd+U Hide/show rows containing only unchanged files in a folder comparison.
Ctrl+Cmd+= Expand all the rows in the folder comparison.
Ctrl+Cmd+- (minus) Collapse all the rows in the folder comparison.
Cmd+M Minimize the current window.
Option+Cmd+ Zoom the current window to/from its maximum size.
Ctrl+Cmd+2 Split the comparison two ways (side-by-side).
Ctrl+Cmd+3 Split the comparison three ways (side-by-side).
Shift+Cmd+? Display the help menu.
Tab Insert a tab character in a text comparison, if the SettingsText ComparisonsEditingTab key inserts tab character instead of cycling focus setting is checked; otherwise, move focus to the next comparison control.
Shift+Tab Move focus to the previous comparison control.
Option+Tab Insert a single tab character in a text comparison, regardless of the SettingsText ComparisonsEditingTab key inserts tab character instead of cycling focus setting.
Enter Compare the files and folders in the selected rows of a folder Comparison. A comparison window is opened for each selected row.
Option+W Copies selected files and folders from the first folder hierarchy to the second folder hierarchy.
Option+Q Copies selected files and folders from the second folder hierarchy to the first folder hierarchy.
Cmd+ Delete the files and folders in the selected rows of a folder comparison.
Cmd+ Remove selected row from the file/folder history list.
